Zworks is the web presence of Zcom, founded in 1989 and operating in Houston, Texas. Zcom began as a small communications company, specializing in diagnostic software. In January of 1998, we ventured onto the web with an initial stab into web hosting and design. At the same time, both to gain expertise and attract attention, we created Forever Yours Musical Greeting Cards. The card site took off, chosen as a USA Today Hot Site on February 12, 1998 and never looked back. Web hosting was proving to be a highly competitive market and we backed off in that area to regroup and concentrate on the development of the necessary CGI programs to do it better. During that time, the idea of a Metasearch engine, filtered to target business and family use, was conceived and put into motion. After purchasing a commercially available script, we felt it wasn't good enough for our purpose. We decided to write our own engine script from scratch, creating our ranking, sorting and deduping systems in the way we felt they should be done. As good as the others wasn't good enough. It had to be better. We placed it online in March of 1999 and the result has been called, by several search engine reviewers "one of the best" and by some of our dedicated users, "THE Best". Our Power Search page was designed to allow the average search engine user to easily perform a complicated, comprehensive search. Our filter, made removable on the options page for Power Searches, has been rated superior to any other metasearch. Then, our latest addition, the Lyrics Search page destroyed even Lycos in tests for finding and identifying the requested song lyrics. In 2000, we received an email from Mike Levin (www.mike-levin.com), an SEO specialist and artist who liked our engine but hated our graphics. After some discussion, we accepted his offer and allowed him to redesign the graphics for the site. The stamped metal plate and logo are his design. In the future? With the mergers and acquisitions of the major search engines and the new metasearchers, the face of the search engine world is constantly changing. Our goal is this: to continue to enhance or improve the user's search experience at every opportunity.
